Materials you’ll need:
-
DMC 117 cotton embroidery threads – 4 colors of your choice, 1 skein for each color
-
1 pair of hoop earrings (2cm diameter)
-
2 copper washers (2.5cm diameter)
-
Needle
-
Scissors
-
Tape measure
-
Glue
Instructions:
Step 1: Cut a 50cm length of each of the blue and yellow threads. Apply a small amount of glue to the back of the hoop part of the earring and fix down the ends of the threads.
Step 2: Begin wrapping both threads around the earring, taking care to keep the blue thread on the left and the yellow thread on the right. It might help to use a needle.
Step 3: Keep wrapping the threads until the earring is fully covered. Once finished, apply some glue to the back of the earring and fix down the thread. Cut off any excess thread with scissors. You have now completed the first circle.
Step 4: Take all 4 thread colours and cut a 70cm length of each thread. Take the copper washer with 2.5cm diameter and apply a small amount of glue to the back to fix down the ends of the threads.
Step 5: Begin wrapping the threads around the washer, taking care to keep the threads in this order: red, yellow, green, blue. To make your job easier, use a needle to help.
Note: Keep wrapping the threads until the washer is fully covered. Once finished, apply some glue to the back of the washer and fix down the threads. Cut off any excess thread with scissors. You have now completed the second circle.
Step 6: To make the third circle, take the washer with 3cm diameter and repeat step 5, but changing the thread colour order to: yellow, red, blue, green.
Step 7: Now join the 3 circles together. Take the red and green threads and cut a 30cm length of each thread. Apply a dot of glue to the back of the first 2 circles.
Step 8: Fix down the threads and start wrapping them between the 2 circles, until they are securely held together.
Step 9: Apply a little more glue to the back of the circles to fix the threads. Cut off any excess thread with scissors.
Note: Repeat steps 7-9 to attach the final circle.
10: Now that you have completed the first earring, repeat all steps to make the second one.
